Hello !
Eeek, sorry it has been so long since I have made a post! It's been a really
busy few months for me, but still, no excuses haha!
I have been doing quite a few
commissions since I graduated third year, so I have not stopped to
write about my finished third year work, so here goes!
This was a big project for me so be prepared for a looong blog post with lots of photos!
It would appear with every new project I undertake my work seems to get bigger and bigger.
I walked into my allocated studio space in third year, confronted by a large white wall. If I am honest I knew instantly that there was no way that wall was going to stay white.
I think at first I was just going to allow myself to essentially 'doodle' on the wall, to use it as a large visual sketchbook in order to free up my imagination a bit, in hope of coming up with a new project idea. Before actually starting this however, I realised I was far more excited about the prospect of just transforming the white space into something colourful and new, than I was even thinking about any other project. I began to have visions of a grand wall of colour or some kind of thing growing out of the wall and taking over the space.
Before I knew it I was creating my next work, and the transformation began!
Here I will show the final outcome, and I will write a second blog post of how I constructed it, as I have so many photos I think it needs to be broken down into a couple sections.
Taking a step back to see the final work |
Given more time I think I could have just kept painting more and more...
Taken by me standing on a very tall ladder to get this angle |
I had painted onto the doors of the studio |
I had found and painted lots of miscellaneous objects and hundreds of balls in a variety of sizes, I also used different shapes that I molded and built to be part of the installation.
A close up to show the detail |
The ground section moving out into the studio |
I painted over the studio light switches |
Enjoying the colour one last time before I had to destroy it! |
Meanwhile.... in another part of the studio |
I had one day to take a step back, after months and months of work and actually enjoy what I had created. Then I had to destroy the entire thing and have the studio back 'as good as new'.
Painted white.
Before I knew it, I had gone full circle, I had created, injected the studio with an obnoxious amount of vibrant colour, swirls, and shapes and then it was all white walls again!
I have to say, I found the deconstruction of the work, and painting over it to be quite emotional. I think after putting in so many hours, days and months! then in the end how happy I was with the way it looked, I knew it would be hard but I think the worst part was when I found myself stood staring at the same blank walls I was confronted with at start of the year. It was as if I'd never even been there at all...

Keep an eye out as I will be posting more about how I built this soon!!
